Battalion Chief Steve Kahan was appointed to the Sylvania Township Fire Department on May 4th, 1999. He was promoted to Lieutenant on August 5th, 2004. Promotion to Battalion Chief came on March 8th, 2020. He is a certified firefighter, paramedic, flight paramedic and fire inspector. He is also a Fire, Live Fire and EMS Instructor and teaches CPR, ACLS & PALS. He is also a peer fitness instructor and was instrumental in designing and equipping the Department’s fitness rooms. Battalion Chief Kahan has served on the department’s Health Insurance Committee since its inception. He was a member of Local 2243’s negotiating team prior to his promotion. Battalion Chief Kahan attended Ohio University and the University of Toledo.
