Fire Marshal Shane Hillard was appointed to the Sylvania Fire-EMS Department on May 19, 2000. Upon being appointed he spent most of his service time as a firefighter/paramedic at stations 61 and 64. In April 2017 he became the department’s full-time Fire Safety Inspector. In January 2020 he became the department’s first Fire Marshal. Today Fire Marshal Hillard oversees the department’s Community Risk Reduction Bureau which includes fire inspections, fire investigations, and building plan review.

During his career Fire Marshal Hillard has obtained certifications in Paramedic, Firefighter II, Haz-Mat Operations, Fire Instructor, Live Fire Instructor, Fire & Life Safety Educator, Fire Inspector, and Ice Rescue. Prior to his current role, he also served the roles of Sgt. At Arms, Vice President, and President for IAFF Local 2243.
